POPULAR CHARITY BARN DANCE HOSTED BY GREENER POCKLINGTON SET TO RETURN

Greener Pocklington has announced the return of its popular annual fundraising barn dance, taking place on Saturday 10 October at 7pm at Burnby Community Hall in Pocklington.

The event will feature toe-tapping traditional English and Celtic tunes from local folk band Ye Aulde Folke. Formed more than 10 years ago, the band supports a range of charities through its performances, which include barn dances, ceilidhs and music from around the world.

The fun-filled evening is also an important fundraiser for Greener Pocklington, a volunteer-led environmental group that carries out practical projects to benefit wildlife in Pocklington and the surrounding area.

The group’s work includes planting trees and creating habitats through the installation of bird and bat boxes and insect hotels at schools and community spaces. The team is also involved in a number of other habitat creation and enhancement projects, working alongside Pocklington Town Council. Recent activities have included installing bird and bat boxes and leading walks exploring the nature and history of Primrose Woods, invasive Himalayan Balsam removal and nettle removal to encourage woodland wildflowers to flourish.

Tony Flavell of Greener Pocklington said:

“The barn dance is a great way to enjoy a fun evening with like-minded people, listening and dancing to tunes from Ye Aulde Folke. The event also raises around £500 every year for our projects supporting nature within a 10-mile radius of Pocklington.

“Whether you’ve been before or are new to Greener Pocklington, we can assure you of a warm welcome and a toe-tappingly good night.”

Tickets for the barn dance cost £9 and include tea and coffee during the interval. Guests are welcome to bring their own drinks, glasses and food.

There will also be a fundraising raffle during the interval.

Tickets are available from Kate on 07500 043621 or by email at greenerpock@gmail.com.

Local businesses are also invited to get in touch via email if they are able to donate raffle prizes to support the event and Greener Pocklington’s work.
