New brand for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Thrilled to unveil a new brand for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway that I’ve been working on with the internal team at the railway and Manchester based branding agency Instruct Studio over the past 12 months.

I’ve led the project – from developing the brief, to appointing the branding agency and coordinating the roll out.

The brief to Instruct was to acknowledge the railway’s rich history but to also look to the future. It needed to help give clarity and bring together multifaceted strands of activity – from income generation and ticket sales to charitable work, volunteering and fundraising.

The tweaked logo is formed around the classic ellipse symbol that has been connected to the railway since the early 20th century and acknowledges the historical association with LNER.

A new colour palette has been developed relevant for all of the railway’s activities and a series of illustrations, patterns, tickets and other graphic devices inspired by the railway and its unique geographical location.

The new identity also had to work and stand out in a crowded events marketplace – ranging from rail enthusiast events to those targeting a more general family audience.

It’s a gradual and cost effective roll out, starting to make its appearance from now and throughout 2024.

As a freelancer, helping you with a rebrand is just one of the many tools in my belt. I can support you to deliver everything from a radical new look to a little tweak of your existing identity. I’ve been working on the copy for this new look for the railway and also coordinating a schedule to help keep the rebrand on track. So proud to see this really coming alive!

Get in touch if I can help create a new or just a refreshed identity for your business.
