Two new half-day open mental health resilience training sessions have been launched by Paideia Coaching, Railway Mission’s professional training arm.
The courses are on 10 September in Leeds and 17 September in London and provide a cost-effective way for individuals or small groups to benefit from the railway-industry specific training, which normally requires a full group booking.
The flagship training programme – Railway Resilience, supporting yourself and others – was developed in direct response to requests from the Railway industry, with a strong need being identified but a gap existing in provision. The course is endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Railway Operators, with all attendees receiving a certificate acknowledging the contribution made by the training to their ongoing professional development.
Open courses are held in venues away from railway employees’ usual places of work, which helps to encourage more open conversations about mental health, wellbeing and resilience. Participants will also join peers from across the rail industry, meaning they will benefit from wider perspectives and shared experiences covering a broad cross section of roles.
Officially launched at a Parliamentary Reception last October, the name of Railway Mission’s professional training organisation is derived from the Greek word Paideia, meaning lifelong education. The programme focuses on building ongoing personal growth and resilience, providing practical tools that can be usefully applied in daily work life.
During the event, Lord Hendy and Phil Sherratt, CEO of CIRO, formally recognised the training’s quality and value to the industry.
The course is delivered by Paideia Coaching’s Training Lead, Andy Mitchell. Andy has a wealth of experience working with teams and individuals across a range of sectors to strengthen capability, confidence, and performance. He has supported learning in similarly complex and high‑pressure organisational environments and has a strong understanding of the railway industry, having previously worked as a Railway Mission Chaplain.
